For those of us who live in Sanford, the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman saga was a gut wrenching experience. As a town, we’ve got more than our share of warts when it comes to race relations, but the picture of our community broadcast and published through the global media lens was distorted more than a funhouse mirror.
A group of students and artists from Rollins College is working to change that image with “The Sanford Project.” The goal of the effort is to “capture the unique culture and character of a city that’s been misinterpreted by the media.” Rachel Delinski from the Sanford Herald has a nice article about the project, as well as the show which will premiere Saturday, Feb. 22 from 7 to 10 p.m. at The Orange Studio, 1121 N. Mills Ave., Orlando. The show is free and open to the public.
