Chipotle, Giraffas to open in Sanford

chipotleDining options in Sanford will expand later this summer when two fast-causal restaurants open in the Marketplace at Seminole Towne Center.

Chipotle Mexican Grill, which has developed a loyal following for its use of organic ingredients, and Giraffas Brazilian Steaks & Burgers, a new restaurant concept in Central Florida, will open in a newly constructed building located at the 308,571-squre-foot retail center anchored by Target.

Altamonte Springs-based R.A. Rogers Construction Co. is expected to finish construction in April of an 8,500-square-foot outparcel building.

Alex Evans, a leasing agent with Weingarten Realty, said once R.A. Rogers is finished, both restaurants will begin the interior build-out of their respective 2,400-square-foot spaces. Evans expects both will be open for business by late summer.

Chipotle — with some 1,500 locations and revenues of $3 billion — is well known in the U.S. Giraffas, on the other hand, is just beginning to make a push into the U.S. market.

Based in Brazil’s capital city of Brasilia, Giraffas has nearly 400 locations in the South American county. It has just 10 in the U.S. — 9 in South Florida and 1 location on International Drive in Orlando.

In Brazil, Giraffas is a quick-service restaurant (QSR), the same category as McDonald’s and Burger King. The U.S. restaurants, which are franchised to investors through Giraffas USA, are squarely in the fast-casual restaurant space in competition with the likes of its Chipolte and Panara Bread. Patrons will order burgers, steaks and Brazilian entrees at the counter and have their food brought to them. The restaurant will also offer beer and wine.

A more detailed explaination of Giraffas’ concept is available in an article by

In addition to the restaurants, the building has two 1,850-square-foot retail spaces. Evans said his firm is in negotiations with tenants, but could not name the businesses.
