New grocery options in Sanford, but shhh, don’t tell Walmart

Sanford residents living in District 4 along W. 25th Street will have new, closer options for grocery shopping beginning Wednesday.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market is opening 8 a.m. Wednesday. The store is located next to the Walgreens at the southwest corner of 25th Street and the GreenWay (State Road 417).

The Neighborhood Markets are about 1/4th the size of traditional Walmart stores, have full-service pharmacies and sell primarily groceries. The store will employ about 95 people.

Interestingly, the corporate suits in Bentonville, Ark. have decided to name their newest Central Florida store, Walmart Neighborhood Market – Lake Mary. Never mind that the property, which is unincorporated Seminole County, is closer to the Sanford city limits than the sporting goods section in a Walmart Superstore is to the front door.

I guess Walmart thinks adding “Lake Mary” to the end of its name will class the joint up.

At least they didn’t name it Walmart Neighborhood Market – North Orlando. That would probably attract too many visitors.
