International airline Interjet (website) plans to begin scheduled service between Sanford and Mexico City starting April 21.
Interjet will offer service four times weekly (Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday) using an Airbus A320.
Airports Worldwide President Larry Gouldthorpe said Interjet hopes to provide service from Sanford to Mexico City seven times a week in the future, as well as to additional cities. Airports Worldwide is contracted with the Sanford Airport Authority to manage the domestic and international terminals.
Based in the Miguel Hidalgo borough of Mexico City, Interjet refers to itself as the “JetBlue of Mexico.” The airline has a fleet of 62 aircraft and is a popular choice for surfers because it does not charge additional fees for transporting a surfboard.
