Sanford’s newest ice cream shop won’t be hard to find: the building will be a 23-foot tall ice cream cone.
A representative from Orlando-based Twistee Treat USA LLC (Website | Facebook) met with Sanford officials this morning (May 10) to begin the process of opening a Twistee Treat shop in the Boulevard Plaza (which formerly housed Albertsons grocery store) at the northwest corner of Lake Mary Boulevard and U.S. Highway 17-92 (Gmap).
Twistee Treat President Corey Balzer said the company hopes the shop will open by the end of the year.
The company’s iconic fiberglass cone-shaped building will be located in the parking lot of the shopping center. Including the drive-through lane, the entire site occupies about 4,900 square feet or about 30 standard parking spaces.
The shop will have outdoor seating only, and the menu offers ice cream, shakes, slushies, banana splits, malts and sundeas.
Balzer said the company will hire 25 to 30 people to operate the store. All new hires attend 10 days of training.
Twistee Treat was founded in 1983 and has 35 locations across Florida.
