Tilted Kilt closed, new shopping center planned for site

The lure of new real estate development – long the economic addiction of choice in Florida – has outweighed the appeal of buxom women serving chicken wings.

The Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery in Lake Mary has closed because a Clearwater developer has purchased the 1.8-acre property at 901 Currency Circle where restaurant was located.

Epic Development made the $3.5 million purchase in late June and plans to raze the existing building in order to build a multi-tenant shopping center.

Epic has not revealed details about the proposed retail center. The company developed the Shoppes of Lake Mary, a 279,000_square-foot center next to the Target store on Lake Mary Boulevard. Epic sold that property in May for $7.7 million.

For the uninitiated, the Tilted Kilt is known for waitresses wearing tiny plaid “kilts” and skimpy tops. The Tempe, Ariz.- based restaurant chain is often referred to as a “breastaurant,” a real trademark term filled with the the U.S. Patent and Trademark office.
