New commercial construction on French Ave between 1st and 25th streets has been virtually nonexistent for 25 years, save for the Dollar General store built in 2012. That may change in the near future.
Tampa-based developer Ocean Bleu Group LLC (website) submitted plans to build a Starbucks coffee shop at 1601 S. French Ave. The location is next to Checkers Drive-In restaurant and across the street from Winn Dixie. The Sanford Community Gardens property is located on the east side of the proposed development.
The site has long been a stand-alone drive-through bank, Wells Fargo being the last of a series of national banks use the facility.
Ocean Bleu submitted a preliminary site plan to the city of Sanford that indicates a 2,200-square-foot Starbucks will be built on the property. The site would include a drive-through and could be accesses from 15th Street and French Ave.
No timetable has been established for construction and Ocean Bleu must still get approvals for its site plan and all permits.
