The Willow Tree Cafe is where Gemütlichkeit* happens – but not for 3 days beginning next week.
Downtown Sanford’s most popular restaurant is closing Monday, Jan. 30 to Wednesday, Feb. 1, in order to make some improvements to the facilities.
Proprietor Theo Hollerbach was mum on the details, but rumor has it the work with include upgrading the plumbing; removing the black-and-white checkerboard linoleum to replace it with tile; and expanding the bar.
Not to worry, though, if you need a fix of some great German food, the Willow Tree’s sister company, Magnolia Square Market will offer a limited selection of Willow Tree favorites.
Check the restaurant’s Facebook page for updates.
By Thursday the Gemütlichkeit* (don’t ask me to pronounce it) should be in full swing.
*Note: Gemütlichkeit = A German word for that feeling you have when enjoying great food and drink amongst friends and family.
