Walgreens set to close store on West 25th Street by Feb. 20

Walgreens is at the corner of happy & healthy, according to the company’s slogan, but you won’t find them at the corner of Casa Verde Boulevard and 25th Street in Sanford for very much longer.

Store employees confirmed the Walgreens is closing Feb. 20. A member of the pharmacy staff indicated the closing is a result of the the recently opened Walmart Neighborhood Market taking a lot of business from the national drug store chain. The Walmart facility is directly behind the Walgreens.

Phil Caruso, in the media relations department at Walgreens corporate office was unaware of a store closing at that location. He promised to look into the matter, but did not follow up before press time.

The store that is closing is located near State Road 417 at 2821 W 25th St. (Gmap) The Walgreens at 2501 S French Ave, which is 2 miles east on 25th Street, is NOT closing. In fact, customers who have prescriptions at the soon-to-be-closed store will have their prescriptions transferred to the French Avenue location. Customers can also have their prescriptions transferred to other Walgreens stores in the area if they so choose.

The 14,362-square-foot Walgreens was built in 2008. The Walmart Neighborhood Market opened a year ago on Jan. 13, 2016.
