Talk with Sanford residents long enough and at some point the topic of trollies comes up, usually with the phrase, “Wouldn’t it be great if Sanford had a trolley?”
It was one of the topics of discussion on our recent fact-finding trip to Asheville, where a trolly leaves the Asheville welcome center every 30 minutes.
A similar service is in the very early planning stages for Sanford.
The details are skimpy at this time, but what I can share is that a 38-passenger bus that looks like a trolley is the type of vehicle that would be used; the service is expected to run on the weekends, as well as during the week; and it would circulate throughout downtown on a regular basis, as well as outlying areas.
When I have more details I will share.
Absolutely! What a cool way to show off the town. It fits with the old fashioned feel of historic Sanford.

Getting around Sanford is not a problem – it’s definitely walkable. I think if the area really wanted an injection of business they should run the trolley from Colonial Townpark in Lake Mary. That bar and restaurant area is always crowded on the weekends and if people wanted to mix it up and experience Sanford a trolley would be the perfect answer.
