Supper club coming to Sanford Avenue

Shantell’s closing Sunday

If you’re jonesing for Shantell Williams’ chicken and waffles, you have until Sunday to get your fill. Jan. 17 is the last day for Shantell’s Cafe, the soul food restaurant that took downtown Sanford by storm in 2013.

And while this is the end of Shantell’s Cafe, it is not the end of a Shantell-led restaurant in Sanford. She plans to open a new venture at 501 S. Sanford Ave. in a building owned by her new husband, Cobbin McGee.

“Our plans is to have a cigar lounge and supper club,” said Shantell. “We haven’t thought of a name yet but it will be very nice.”

No opening date for the new venture has been set because renovations need to be made to the building.

“I’m so excited about it because it will be quite the place,” Shantell said.

In the meantime, Shantell plans to do pop-up kitchens around Sanford and Winter Park area. Plus, she’ll serve food at the monthly Sanford Avenue Market event, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. to midnight the fourth Saturday of every month.
